Nominations for SBDM Minority Parent Elections Accepted Through Sept 26th, 2018
Dear Dayton Middle and High School Parents,
This letter is for the purpose of providing notification that Dayton Middle and High School has an enrollment of at least eight percent (8%) minority students; therefore, we are seeking minority representation on the school council.
Since our school council does not have a minority member, a special election for an additional minority parent and minority teacher representation will be conducted. The related statute addressing this is as follows:
KRS 160.345 (2) (b) (2) “School councils in schools having eight percent (8%) or more minority students enrolled, as determined by the enrollment on the preceding October 1, shall have at least one (1) minority member. If the council formed under paragraph (a) of this subsection does not have a minority member, the principal, in a timely manner shall be responsible for carrying out the following:
- a) Organizing a special election to elect an additional member. The principal shall call for nominations and shall notify the parents of the students of the date, time, and location of the election to elect a minority parent to the council by ballot; and
- b) Allowingtheteachersinthebuildingtoselectone(1)minorityteachertoserveasateacher member on the council. If there are no minority teachers who are members of the faculty, an additional teacher member shall be elected by a majority of all teachers. Term limitations shall not apply for a minority teacher member who is the only minority on faculty;”
Nominations for the special election can be submitted in person, by fax 859-261-1606 or email firstname.lastname@example.org no later than Wednesday September 26th at 3:00 pm.
Nominations for this council seat must meet minority criteria. The special election will take place on Tuesday October 2nd from 7:30am-3:00 pm. Please don’t hesitate to contact the school administration with any questions at 292-7486. Thanks.
